Drive up your revenue at PGT! Independent Contractors have propelled our growth for nearly 30 years.

We work hard to ensure you have an abundance of freight and excellent rates. Our strategic terminal network makes finding return loads easier and quicker. In addition, we try to maximize your time and get you home on the weekends.

To promote your success, there are several customized programs for our Independent Contractors. We offer monthly safety incentive awards. You’ll get weekly settlements, and PGT files all state road and fuel taxes.

Our Independent Contractors have access to a variety of insurance programs. The size of our company and fleet allows us to leverage our buying power to save you money in fuel, maintenance, and other products.

Hiring Qualifications:

  • 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience
  • 6 months recent flatbed steel hauling experience - verifiable
  • Maximum of 2 preventable accident in past 3 years
  • Maximum of 3 moving violations in the last 3 years
  • No more than 1 serious moving violation in last 3 years
  • No DUI's in the past 5 years
  • No felonies in last 7 years
  • Not currently on parole or probation
  • Minimum age of 23 years

Direct Deposit: Independent Contractors are encouraged to take advantage of the convenience of weekly direct deposit of paychecks.
 
Paid Weekly/Settlement Pays: We use Transflo Express which receives bills directly from truck stop scanning stations resulting in fast settlement and payment.

Pickup / Drop Pay: Additional compensation varies per account for pickup or drop outside of the normal 1 pickup plus 1 drop situation for the average load.

Fuel Surcharge: You will receive 100% fuel surcharge paid by the customer on the loads you haul.


Road and Fuel Tax: The company will file all state fuel taxes and state highway usage taxes. You are required to turn in all fuel receipts that are not purchased with a company issued fuel card. Fuel should be purchased in the states in which you log miles.


Toll Passes: The company does not pay for toll passes.

Healthcare: We offer a program through UTBA that offers discounts of 10% to 50% on health care for drivers and their families. Drivers can save on a wide range of health care products and services. The following is a list of the weekly premiums by enrollment type:

Safety Incentive Program: Ability to earn 1.25% to 1.75% each month based on safety.

Performance-Based Award and Incentive Program: All Owner Operators will be eligible to earn award points based on certain performance-based criteria. Earned award points can be redeemed for merchandise through PGT’s awards partner, Mirabel Promotions, LTD.

Non-Trucking Liability Insurance: $1,000,000.00 in coverage is required. PGT Trucking offers this coverage for $47.49 per month.

Physical Damage Insurance: We do not require proof of physical damage insurance, but we strongly encourage coverage. PGT Trucking offers this coverage for approximately $5.50 per thousand of value.

Rider Program: Independent Contractors can request a rider certificate for anyone who is at least 12 years of age. Any rider under age 18 must be a relative. The driver must have a valid Rider Program Certificate in their possession from the Compliance Department.
 
Base Plate: It is the owner’s responsibility to base plate his or her own equipment. However we do offer a plate program through the state of Indiana. Plates are renewed July 1st of each year. Trailer plates are pro-rated on a monthly basis. Settlements deducts $100.00 per week until paid off.

Trailer plates: are $40.00 per year and expire at the end of June each year.
 
Workers’ Compensation: PGT requires the owner to supply appropriate Workers’ Compensation coverage for each of his or her drivers, as defined by the state's laws in which your business resides. PGT Trucking offers Occupational Accident Insurance for $142 per month for individuals who qualify.
 
Settlement Percentage:

75% of gross for 1 or 2 units minus trailer rent
78% of gross for 3 or more units minus trailer rent

Tractor trailer combinations:

Building Products Division:

$165.00 per week

Liability Claims and Accidents: All owners who participate in our Liability Limiter Program will be held liable for any amount up to $1,000 for cargo loss/damage, and $1,000 for property damage per occurrence, for a monthly payment of $40 for each vehicle leased. The other option available is to have a $30,000 escrow.
 
Escrow: A $1,000 escrow is required. It can be settlement deducted at $100 per week until $1,000 is reached - no money needed up front!
 
Federal Inspections: Must be done at a Company Maintenance Facility prior to sign-on.

Detention Time: You are paid your pay percentage of detention time charges.
 
Loading/Unloading: Drivers are not responsible for loading and unloading, except in extremely rare situations. 99.9% of our loads are no-touch. However, the driver is responsible for load placement, proper securement and tarping.

Fueling Policy: Upon request, Independent Contractors will be issued a Comdata card for use at our large network of approved fuel stops. You will receive an advance of 35% of the gross revenue for each load on your card for fueling or cash advance.

No Forced Dispatch: Independent Contractors do not have forced dispatch, however flexibility is expected.
 
Pets-On-Board Allowance: You can bring your pets with you while traveling.

Orientation: All new Independent Contractors are required to attend a Company Orientation within 7 days of start date.
 
Events:

  • Golf Outing: This annual event is a big hit every year. Great prizes, a very nice golf course, good food and drink make this day a ton of fun. The event is a four man scramble, so golfers of all skill levels can have a blast. All drivers are invited. Don’t miss it.
  • Safety Meetings: We hold Safety Meetings in strategic areas around the country on a regular basis. Our drivers find these meetings very informative, interactive, and fun.
